OSHA Standards Board Withdraws Recent Revisions to COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards

The Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board voted unanimously this week to withdraw recent revisions to Cal/OSHA’s COVID-19 prevention emergency temporary standards.

This development means California businesses will have to continue to comply with the emergency temporary standards that had been passed last November.

The Board originally voted to approve revisions on June 3, which had been sent to the Office of Administrative Law for review. The revised standards had been expected to go into effect no later than June 15.

The decision to withdraw was made June 9 during a special meeting to review the latest guidance regarding face masks according to the Centers for Disease Control and California Department of Public Health.

The Board could consider new revisions at a future meeting, perhaps as early as the regular meeting on June 17. In the meantime, the protections adopted in November of 2020 will remain in effect.
