Bolton Producer Todd Jackson says that every time he gets a call from Jim Perley, former U.S. Navy fighter pilot and president of Western American Properties, he smiles.
Over the last 20 years, Todd has gotten a glimpse of Jim’s lifetime commitment to service—spanning from his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1960, a Vietnam tour and up to today finding housing for homeless veterans. See Jim’s story here.
“I am so thankful for veterans like Jim,” Todd said. “They put their lives on the line defending our freedom. And Jim has never forgotten what it’s like for other veterans transitioning to civilian life. His example challenges me to serve with my whole heart—not leave anything on the table.”
Having a successful career in real estate, Jim has helped make headway for LA’s Homes for Heroes initiative in finding housing for the more than 2,700 homeless veterans in the county. In a tight rental market of 3.2 percent vacancies in LA County, it’s dependent on folks like Jim to open doors and create the community that supports a successful transition.
“I received a great education and made lasting friendships during my tour—and even though I didn’t see heavy combat, I struggled when I got back,” Jim said. “I can only imagine what it was like for those who were drafted and saw heavy combat, how difficult it must be to come back and adjust to civilian life.”
